Romeu and a number of excellent ski resorts in
the Pyrenees which are quieter and less
expensive than the Alps. The old village of
Leucate is a mile or so inland. A picturesque
small community with narrow streets and pretty
squares it is dominated by a fortified castle
well worth a visit for the stunning views
across the Corbieres range and Mont Canigou. In
the autumn a number of wine festivals take
place in the local Chateaux with wine tasting
opportunities.
