Jutting into the Atlantic, culturally and
geographically distinct from the French mainland,
Brittany was only officially united with France 500
years ago. The region’s long, jagged coastline
and magnificent beaches are interspersed with
well-established seaside resorts and fishing
harbours.
The gentle south coast has wooded river valleys and a
mild climate. Crêpes, cider, and Celtic music
are still a genuine part of Breton lifestyle, while
the regional capitals of Nantes and Rennes are thriving economic
and commercial centres.
