Dordogne
Taking its name from the river that runs through its
heart, this region has a wonderful mix of prehistoric
caves famous for their ancient art, châteaux
and medieval towns and villages.
A rich regional cuisine boasts delicacies such as
Foie Gras and truffles, which can also be found at
the daily markets.
Perigueux, the thriving capital and regional
administration centre combines modern-day life with
the picturesque, historic architecture of an ancient
past.
Traditionally rural, this region has a gentle pace of
life.
Gironde
On the South West Atlantic coast, the Gironde has
long stretches of golden sandy beach, rolling
atlantic waves and scented pine forests. It is home
to the huge ‘Dune du Pilat’, a world
heritage site and the magnificent bay of Arcachon.
Famous the world over for its Bordeaux wine, the mild
climate offers long hot summers and mild winters.
Rural Gironde - beautiful old villages, overlooking
miles of ancient vineyards – is a striking
contrast to cosmopolitan Bordeaux with its stunning
architecture, designer shops and multitude of
restaurants.
