Half way between the Atlantic Ocean and the
Mediterranean sea the Midi Pyrenees is France’s
largest region. It benefits from two main airports
(Toulouse and Pau), several motorways and TGV high
speed train stations. With mountain ranges to its
northern and southern borders and the lush valley of
the Garonne river in its centre, the region offers a
wide variety of landscapes, remarkable towns and
picturesque villages steeped in history.
The regional capital is Toulouse. It is a vibrant
university town, a sophisticated cultural city and
the centre of the European Aerospace industry.
The Midi Pyrenees region enjoys a fine climate with
an average of 2 000 hours of sunshine per year. The
region is famous the world over for its traditional
gastronomy which includes the Gers delicacy of Foie
gras (goose liver) and Agen prunes.
